SCRIPT READING CV AND TESTIMONIALS

I am an experienced dramaturg and script reader with credits at Paines Plough and the Royal Court.  I offer a range of services, from a one-off script report to longer term dramaturgical support with a production.  As a writer myself, I understand the intricacies of the writing process, as well as having a knowledge of how to best give feedback that works for a writer.  I work hard with writers to get the best out of their work.

FREELANCE SCRIPT READER

I have been working as a freelance script reader for around four years now, working in a variety of ways with writers to help them develop both their current draft and also themselves as a writer in the long-term.  My work focuses on nurturing writers - not telling them what's wrong with their script.  I focus on structure, creation of character, and pacing, whilst also trying to look more broadly at the writers' intention within the script - what are they looking to achieve here? Why do you need to write this play?  I also ensure to ask questions of writers at the end of the report, as well as providing links to exercises and material to watch or read to help themselves develop further in future.

SCRIPT READER - WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR PLAYWRITING

I was a reader for the first two years of Paines Plough's Women’s Prize for Playwriting, reading 80 scripts for the first round of the prize. I thoroughly enjoyed this process, and found it tested my analytic eye, as well as giving me a connection with the current playwriting scene.  Reading for an inaugural prize was a challenging process, but one I really felt developed me as a reader.

ROYAL COURT SCRIPT PANEL

I was selected for the ‘Script Panel’ at the Royal Court, a course run by the Literary Office and Particpation team at The Royal Court Theatre.
This taught me how to write and format a script report, how to use a mixture of your taste and analysis to put together useful feedback, how to work with writers at different stages of the creative process to foster an effective dialogue, and how to challenge your own preconceptions of theatre in order to gain a greater understanding of the current theatrical climate.
